Tip of the Day #39: Follow Wedding Trends Moderately
Tip of the Day #39: Follow Wedding Trends Moderately The jury is out! The Pantone Color Institute has named "Tangerine Tango" the color of the year. Fashion trends always bleed into wedding and event design in addition to showing up on the shelves in home decor stores, cosmetics, accessories and other consumer products.
I will be the first to admit that I am loving all of the pastel and neon colors that are hot this season. I am all for following trends but caution all brides to follow wedding trends moderately. What was "hot" in 1998 probably was not in 2008. If you develop a strong passion for Tangerine Tango, be sure not to design orange floral centerpieces with orange linens - I promise you will regret the decision down the road. The best strategy is to take elements from current trends that you love and incorporate them into strategic wedding decor and design.
If you do love a pop of Tangerine Tango or another trendy color, incorporate into bridesmaid dresses, linens, floral arrangements or print materials like invitations and place cards. Choose ONE element and stick with it as an accent.
Some great resources for design inspiration are home design magazines and blogs. Although you probably won't be incorporating solid furniture or wall paint into a wedding, design magazines often show how various colors, fabrics and textures compliment each other.
