WedInsider Newsletter - January 2018

Hi there,

The new year is upon us!  2017 has been a jam packed year for Square Mile Events, filled with wonderful weddings and private parties. The highlight of our year was to be chosen by The Knot to be the planner for their first-ever workshop in New York designed for event planner and wedding vendors. It's an inspiring and creative relationship which we hope to continue for years to come and it will help us to remain at the forefront of trends and news relating to the wedding and events industry.

We hope you enjoy our recommendations for January's latest trends, best vendors, and timely networking events for brides, industry professionals and wedding enthusiasts.

Peace and well wishes to all for a prosperous 2018!

Trend of the Month

Plush Velvet

Colored velvet has been popping up on fashion runways all over the world. InStyle dubbed velvet one of 2017's most luxurious trends. Although velvet isn't a new fabric choice it has received an upgrade with the use of bright, bold colors, sexy silhouettes and an added layer or richness to decor elements that otherwise would blend in.

Get to Know Karma Flowers

One look at Kristyn Lobo, co-owner of Karma Flowers, and her funky ringlet curls and her leather jacket uniform you know you are working with a true creative.  Kristyn brings a fresh, artistic approach to flowers that feels natural, organic and spectacular at the same time.  Kristyn shares, "To us flowers are one piece to the overall design.  We have a keen eye for detail and take pride in telling our client's story. We come from a place of authenticity.  Our events have roots."

For brides looking for cost saving and inspiring wedding tips, Kristyn recommends using a scattering of mixed sized bud vases featuring one to three bold blooms to let a single flower style shine.  There's beauty in the repetition and minimalism - and guests will be happy they can converse with guests sitting across the table from them without dodging an overflowing centerpiece.  Foliage and greenery are also great fillers to add color and dimension to a bouquet or centerpiece without breaking the bank.  If a bride has a general idea of her wedding flower colors it can help to keep costs down if she selects blooms that are in season and don't have to be imported.

Kristyn also points out seeing an increase of floral print incorporated into bridal fashion.  Bridesmaid printed dresses are on trend as a perfect compliment to the bride in white.
